Chicken Seasoning Mix
Makes ~4 Tablespoon Seasoning Mix
Preparation Time: Less than 5 Minutes
To save money in the kitchen, I buy spices and herbs in bulk and create my own seasoning mixes. This strategy also allows me to personalize my seasoning mixes based on my body’s individual dietary needs.
Below is one of my favorite seasoning mixes for roasted chicken.
As always, choose organic ingredients when possible and always ask your body if it wants these ingredients. I find it helpful to hold the ingredient in my hands and smell it while asking my body if it wants to eat that ingredient. If the answer is yes, add that ingredient. If the answer is no then move to the next ingredient. You can also ask your body if it wants to add a spice that is not listed in this recipe.
Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon granulated garlic
1-1/2 Tablespoons granulated onions
1 teaspoon cumin, ground (I buy whole cumin seeds and grind them using a spice grinder; the result is an amazing flavor that you cannot obtain using pre-ground cumin seeds and it reduces the likelihood of rancidity and “filth,” according to the FDA).
¼ teaspoon coriander
2 teaspoons oregano
1 teaspoon cilantro
¼ teaspoon black pepper
Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients in glass container.
2. Store in glass container with air-tight lid in a cool, dark location.
To determine shelf-life, check the expiration dates of each ingredient. The ingredient with the shortest expiration date dictates the expiration date of your homemade seasoning mix.
